On Monday, September 19th we were privileged to present the inaugural Schmitz Service Award. This award was inspired by our recipient, Dick "Papa" Schmitz, as he has shown exemplary service and incredible devotion to the mission of Food for Hope. He began advocating our program before we even distributed one bag of food, and he continued on as the Volunteer Coordinator as we grew over the first two years in existence. Children knew him in the halls of the schools and staff members often praised his commitment to delivering bags every week. His connections to the community we serve indicates the passion he displays for helping children in need thrive despite their economic circumstances. Dick is currently battling lung cancer, and the Food for Hope community is supporting him while eagerly awaiting his return to serving the schools he loves.
The Schmitz Service Award will be presented to one outstanding volunteer each year as a way for Food for Hope to recognize individuals that go above and beyond to improve the lives of local children. Join us in congratulating Dick Schmitz on receiving this honor by sharing this post or recognizing him on our Facebook page!
