It started with a need that demanded action.

Food For Hope started in the heart of ThornCreek Church in 2004. ThornCreek was feeding the hungry on a regular basis, but desired to do more. They wanted to be the kind of church that if absent, would be missed. In 2014, Thornton Mayor Heidi Williams decided to take action against the issue of hunger and called together community leaders to discuss ways to help. The next day, Pastor Ruben Villarreal of ThornCreek Church got the idea to start Food for Hope through prayer with God. Pastor Ruben contacted Mayor Williams to share how ThornCreek would help address the hunger problem through schools. The vision was to establish a weekend food program that distributed healthy food to children who required lunch assistance. It would be funded by organizations and ordinary people that simply cared about children, and sustained through dynamic partnerships with the City of Thornton, Adams County school districts, local businesses, and people from all faiths and walks of life.

In May 2014, Emily Stromquist became the Executive Director of this effort and Food for Hope became an independent 501(c)3 organization in early 2015. Since that time, Food for Hope and its supporters have been working hard to pursue healthy food donations and financial sponsorships to positively impact the local community. Whether helping support the mission or in need of assistance, everyone is an important part of the organization. Together we can do the most good to help children know they are loved, so that they can thrive and one day make a difference in their community. Food is hope; Food for Hope.
